Nightscapes

For my final project I am going to create a collection of photographs at night titled “Nightscapes”. I plan to have at least ten separate images that explore the way the light given in each location creates its own separate atmosphere. The images will encompass the areas in and around New Brunswick as I have become very familiar with it over the past few years and have had a good amount of experience in seeing it in the dark.

Over my life I have found that I enjoy the night much more than I do the day and find myself looking at things in the darkness and finding beauty all over the place. I would like to explore this further and start documenting the things that I find instead of merely identifying them to myself. I will have to work on composition of the images and making sure that my focus and exposure is spot on so that they have the sharpness and drama that I want to be a main focus of the series.

I think this will be a good project for me as I have recently been focusing on lighting in a studio setting and I would also like to focus on natural lighting in the situations I decide to photograph.

  1. Sam, Todd Hido would be a good person to check out for this kind of work. Also, Todd Cook's night images. You might want to figure out exactly how these locations are important to you...is it more than just the 'light'?
