Official: Final Proposal

For the spring 2012, Photography 3B, final I will be creating an installation piece within the 2nd floor Undergraduate Project space. The installation will have two main components, audio and visual. The audio will be a combination of sound recordings taken by my Grandmother in the years between [roughly] 1970-1990. The audio recordings are of family parties, musical recitals, recounting of family history, and random everyday conversations. The audio will be digitally converted from old cassette tapes- (for a clearer sense of the audio). The visual will be a slide projection series of interior landscapes. The photographs, specifically, will be current images of my grandfather’s house where the recordings had been taken several decades ago.
The project space will be darkened as the slides are projected across the room, with the audio is playing aloud. Seating will be provided to encourage viewers to spend some time looking at the images and listening to the audio. The sound of voices, music, and random chattering will fill the empty spaces within the photographs, of the rooms and hallways, which have long been left empty.
