Jessica Falco- Proposal for Final

I am interested in photographing young women roughly between the ages of 18 and 24. Simple portraiture would be best, photographing these girls horizontally with my camera from their shoulders up capturing an intimate gaze. I would like for the girls to be staring into the camera, making eye contact with the viewer to create a connection between these two people and the girls to claim dominance and confidence within the picture. I will be using a fabric backdrop for the girls to be photographed in front of, placing it in a way that drapes like a curtain behind them.

My reason for photographing young women is because I feel this time in their lives is particularly special. They are out of their childhood stage, yet not completely into their adulthood stage, placing them in a kind of middle area of their lives. I feel women of this age possess a kind of beauty that therefore differentiates them between the two groups and this kind of beauty is what intrigues me most. Photographing the young women as simply as possible allows for the uniqueness of the girl to be the central focus of the picture and having a horizontal frame will allow more a view of the fabric behind them.

The importance of the fabric behind them was to add another element to the picture without taking away from the actual figure. I wanted there to be a romantic, feminine and gentle quality to the picture besides the figures and these qualities to me visually are found in florals. I feel the floral backdrop adds dimension to the photograph, an interesting element that compliments the figure in front of it and a way to introduce more colors into the photograph. When I think of flowers, I immediately think of women of this age as they too possess beauty and innocence.
